      Unbox & Discover 2023: A Closer Look at the Global Launch Event
      Samsung’s subsidiaries worldwide have begun Unbox & Discover (U&D) 2023 in April to unveil new models in local markets and take preorders for new products. After a three-year hiatus from hosting the event in-person due to the pandemic, Samsung held its first offline U&D event to showcase its latest innovations.
       
      Major subsidiaries around the globe, including the U.S., Australia and Singapore hosted the event at special venues, bringing key retailers, media and influencers together to demonstrate the innovative experiences of Samsung 2023 TV models, centered on its Neo QLED 8K.
       
      This year’s U&D event theme was “Global One Launch”. All of the participating subsidiaries hosted events simultaneously around the globe, with both in-person and virtual components. Samsung Newsroom is taking a closer look at Unbox & Discover 2023, which provided rich customer experiences at landmarks around the world.

      Expanding Partnerships With Creators in America
      Samsung Electronics America introduced the Samsung Neo QLED 8K and 4K, highlighting upgraded features and larger screen sizes. The company added an ultra-large 98-inch model to the product lineup and unveiled more sophisticated, groundbreaking technologies like Auto HDR Remastering and 8K AI upscaling. Amongst other media, TechRadar highly praised the QN900C, the top Neo QLED 8K model, for its industry-leading picture quality, saying “There were many moments while viewing when I silently uttered “wow,” and that’s certainly not something I find myself doing with every TV I test.”
       

       

       
      Samsung Electronics America plans to actively partner with various creators for a series of digital content to show how Samsung home entertainment products enhance connectivity and personalize experiences that improve our daily lives.
       
      Samsung Electronics America has also launched a limited time offer to celebrate U&D. Customers who buy the QN800C or QN900C from the official Samsung website or at select retail stores by April 16 will be given a free 32-inch Frame.
       
        
       
      Modeling the Samsung Lifestyle in Australia
      On the other side of the globe, Samsung Electronics Australia hosted the offline U&D event and targeted key retailers, VIPs, media and influencers at WatersEdge in The Rocks, Sydney. To illustrate its “Screens for every Experience” theme, Samsung Electronics Australia demonstrated its lineup throughout different rooms in a model home. Various scenarios were played out to show visitors how Samsung TVs can integrate seamlessly into users’ lifestyles.

      Creating Buzz at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore
      ▲ Samsung Electronics Singapore organized U&D 2023 for retailers, media and customers at Marina Bay Sands from April 4 to 6. Visitors took part in a docent tour of the event set up, which included eight zones. Following the tour, visitors took to social media to share their experiences with new products.

      Intimate Experiences With Screens Across Europe
      European subsidiaries, including Germany, the U.K., the Netherlands, Hungary and Serbia, also hosted the U&D event on and offline, catching the attention of local media. The subsidiaries hosted a countdown timer for U&D on their websites starting on April 5 to drive excitement and conversation leading up to the event.

      Telegraf, a renowned local media outlet said, “This is an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with a large number of new devices at once, to see the entire Bespoke ecosystem.       Unbox & Discover, Samsung’s global launch event, provided insights into this year’s product portfolio to a global audience, with customized experiences for each local market. The event provided a platform for attendees to hear from product experts and see the innovative product lineup for themselves ahead of their global roll out.

      Philips Hue, one of the most popular smart lighting platforms in the world, is launching a new app for the television that will allow you to adapt your lights to the content playing on your TV…for $130.
      As reported by Gizmodo, Signify, the parent company of Philips, has announced the Philips Hue Sync TV app, a new app that allows you to control your lights based on what is playing on your TV — with no TV hardware required.
      It’s a pretty cool prospect, as other TV lighting products require additional hardware that is hooked up directly to or needs to be around your television to achieve a sync between what’s playing on your television and the reaction of your smart lights.
      Philips Hue is attempting to remove the need for this additional hardware with its new app…which costs $130. That’s a high price to pay for a piece of software but, for those who want to invest in a minimalist home theater setup, it could be worth it.
      The company also notes that the app will only be available for select 2022 Samsung QLED televisions at launch. It will also only work with lights connected through the Philips Hue bridge.
      Signify has not said if or when the app will be coming to other televisions, but it makes sense that it will as long as the televisions have the necessary hardware to support it.
      The Philips Hue Sync TV app will be available to download on compatible Samsung televisions beginning on Wednesday, January 5. The app will cost, remember this, a whopping $130. Still, for those who paid $250 for the company’s previous hardware box to accomplish this experience, it technically is almost half off for the same feature.

      Samsung’s Smart Monitor range is expanding this week, with a new 43-inch 4K M7 model and a smaller, 24-inch M5 model with 1080p resolution. The key thing that sets these monitors apart is the introduction of Smart TV technology, powered by Samsung’s own Tizen processors.
      Samsung wants these to be “do-it-all” displays, good for work, gaming and general entertainment, which will be accessible through a Smart TV style UI with support for apps like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. These Smart Monitors also feature apps for remote desktop connections and productivity apps like Microsoft Office. This functionality essentially turns the monitor into its own all-in-one computer.
      Samsung now has Smart Monitors in 43-inch and 32-inch 4K options, as well as 1080p versions from 24-inches up to 32-inches, with prices starting at $229.99.

      It's tempting to think of Tizen as an also-ran in the smartphone world next to powerhouses like Android and iOS, but that's not entirely true when Samsung has sold 1 million Z1 phones in India since January. In fact, there are now signs that the Korean firm is doubling down on its partly in-house platform: Reuters sources hear that Samsung is planning to release "several" more Tizen phones later this year at a range of prices. While there aren't more details yet, the move suggests that Samsung is confident that it can expand Tizen's audience relatively quickly.
      There's certainly a lot of pressure to do that. Samsung has been on less-than-friendly terms with Google because of its sometimes aggressive attempts to build an ecosystem on top of Android. The more Tizen phones Samsung sells, the more it reduces its dependence on someone else's platform for success -- it can promote its own services and stand out in a market where almost everyone else is relying on Google software. You probably won't be buying a flagship-class Tizen phone any time soon, but it's evident that Samsung is determined to avoid Bada's slow fade into obscurity.
