Over the last year, BGR has highlighted differences between the Samsung Galaxy S23, Apple iPhone 14, and Google Pixel 7. In the latest analysis by SellCell, the company looked at depreciation data between these smartphone lineups since their launches.
While consumers need to know which new phone has the best camera, battery, or processor, eventually, they will plan to sell their old smartphone for a new model. But when the time comes, which smartphone holds the best value?
Like previous reports, the iPhone 14 retains the most value, while Samsung’s S23 lineup averages 40% lower resale prices, and Google Pixel 7 models are 48% weaker than the iPhone 14 prices. That said, the latest iPhone model is worth 5.7% less than the iPhone 13 after six months, with the 14-series depreciating by 31.5% while the 13-series was at 25.8% in the same timeframe.
For Galaxy S23 owners, the worst phone to be sold is the Ultra with 1TB. It lost 55.6% of its value in the two months since its launch. On the other hand, the best Galaxy S23 is the Plus model with 256GB. It regained some of its lost value, and it’s worth 36.4% less after two months of its launch.
Image source: sellcell One of the sellcell charts shows that the iPhone 14 Pro Max with 128GB version held the best value after two months of its launch, losing 13.6% of its total price. It’s followed by the base-model iPhone 14 with 29% of depreciation, its Plus version, and then the regular Pro model.
The Galaxy S23 Plus with 256GB appears next, followed by the Pixel 7 Pro. The phone with the most depreciation was the Pixel 7 with 128GB, which lost 44.7% in two months.
The full report can be found here. It highlights the different storage options between the Galaxy S23, iPhone 14, and Pixel 7 lineups and which could be better for you to buy or resell.

Other than the US, all other international Galaxy S23 buyers are in for a price hike across the board. That is the consensus, with leaks indicating that all three Galaxy S23 models will be more expensive than their Galaxy S22 counterparts outside the States. The Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and Ultra will be a lot more exciting than their predecessors, which might help make the price hike more bearable. But then there’s the economy to factor in, which might prevent some people from buying the newest handsets.
With preorders coming up on February 1st, you have two options to save money on the Galaxy S23. One of them is the easiest one to take advantage of. Samsung is already offering up to $100 off if you reserve the Galaxy S23 now, and there will be other discounts and bundle deals to tack on at launch. The other option is waiting a few months for prices to drop.
Why Galaxy S23 preorders are so exciting
Samsung had to endure a humiliating defeat with the Galaxy S22 series, but it was the South Korean company’s own fault. It can fix that with the Galaxy S23, and that’s precisely what Samsung wants to do.
The Galaxy S23 phones will be better in every way than their predecessors. We’re looking at the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 powering the three phones in all markets. It’s also a custom System-on-Chip (SoC), running at higher clock speeds than the regular Gen 2 chips.
Add to that new speed boosts for the RAM and flash memory, and the Galaxy S23 handsets should deliver significant speed gains. Furthermore, the Plus and Ultra get big storage boosts, starting at 256GB. And the Galaxy S23 Ultra will feature a massive camera upgrade, with a brand new 200-megapixel primary camera.

Rumors say Galaxy S23 preorder deals will double the storage for free, which is excellent news for buyers who want more flash memory. Remember that Samsung flagships do not support microSD cards.
Samsung and carriers might throw additional incentives during preorders, including trade-in offers that can significantly reduce the Galaxy S23 preorder price.
But not everyone will be eligible. And there will be buyers who want to avoid dealing with trade-ins or carrier-locked phones.
When to buy the Galaxy S23 to get a better price
In case you’re not comfortable paying the full retail price for the Galaxy S23 during preorders, there’s one other way to get a great deal. You can skip preorders and wait a few months for the price to drop.
You’ll lose out on the preorder deals, including the reservation credit. But you might be looking at up to 20% savings on the Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and Ultra. So says Idealo, via the Italian-language blog Tutto Android.
According to the research firm, you’ll have to wait about five months for the Galaxy S23 prices to drop by 20%. While that’s just an estimate, we’ll remind you that Android flagships do not retain their value like iPhones. They almost always lose significant value after launch.

After five months, you’re looking at a 20% price drop for the handset. The Galaxy S23 Plus might see a 24% drop within four months after launch. Finally, the Galaxy S23 Ultra could see the price drop by 20% in four months.
Again, this is all just an estimate for the moment, but it’s based on data from the previous flagships, including the Galaxy S22 and S21.
If you can’t buy the Galaxy S23 at launch and want the best possible price, your best bet is to wait a few months to score a sweeter deal. Whatever you do, don’t get a cheaper Galaxy S22 instead while you wait.

In two months, Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy S23 series. While dummy units of the product have already leaked and some possible specifications, we now have a chance to take a closer look at some of the cases that will be available for the S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra models.
Before MobileFun gave us the first look, famous leaker Evan Blass posted on his Twitter account the name of some first-party S23 cases. For example, the models will get the following accessories:
Clear case Clear Gadget case Leather case Rugged Gadget case Silicone case Silicone Grip case Smart View Wallet case These Galaxy S23 cases will be available in several colors, and the British publication MobileFun gave us a first look at some of the accessories available for Samsung’s next flagship phones. Image source: MobileFun The Galaxy S23 Ultra will get a leather cover case in camel, black, and green, which are probably the colors that the smartphone will be available. The publication notes that this bronze-looking color was rumored for the iPhone 14 Pro at some point.
Another interesting case leaked by MobileFun is the Smart View Flip cover in Lilac, also for the S23 Ultra. This case will have a cutout on the screen so users can see the battery, the hour, and the date.

BGR reported early today that the South Korean company could delay the release of its next flagship phones because it doesn’t want to increase the price of the phones in some markets, despite the increased production costs.
Rather sooner than later, we’ll learn more about Samsung’s upcoming phones. BGR will make sure to bring all the details.

Samsung is the king of the foldable market right now because it was one of the first companies to launch phones that fold. Another reason for that dominance is the absence of real competitors. Several Chinese foldable handsets could compete against the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4, but they’re unavailable internationally. The main reason Samsung can brag about being the market leader in this segment is the absence of a foldable iPhone.
A few weeks ago, Samsung launched a new ad campaign to mock Apple for not having a foldable iPhone. After all these years, Samsung has not given up on making fun of the iPhone. That’s even though Apple sells millions of expensive iPhones every year, a feat Samsung can’t match with its foldable and non-foldable Galaxy flagships.
The new Samsung ad is part of the On the Fence campaign that Samsung started in early November. Like the previous spot, we have the same iPhone user, sitting on the fence between Apple and Samsung, unsure of what to do next.
The man starts a conversation with a woman who tells him she used to be him. “Sitting on the fence between Apple and Samsung.” The man is interested in a Samsung device but worries about what his friends will think if he gets it. But the woman explains that everyone around him will be jealous.
“When you pull out your new Galaxy Z Flip 4, people are going to lose it,” she says. “They’ll never leave you alone.”
The idea here is clear, Samsung has a type of handset that Apple doesn’t make. There’s no foldable iPhone to compete against the Galaxy Z Flip 4. But it’s not like people are hurrying to buy foldable Galaxy phones.
The Flip 4 is reasonably priced, matching the cost of traditional flagship phones. Yet it can’t match the popularity of non-foldable iPhones, like the iPhone 14 Pro models.
That must hurt Samsung terribly in real life. In the ad, however, Samsung wins the customer over. He’s no longer on the fence, jumping over to Samsung to embrace the foldable handset. As soon as he does, iPhone users from the other side start pestering him with questions.
There’s no telling when Apple will make a foldable iPhone if it’s even considering it. Instead, the company might launch foldable tablets or MacBooks before a foldable iPhone. As for Samsung, the lack of real competition is hurting its foldables rather than helping it gain more customers.
