More improvements to Seller Portal were released at the end of September. This past month, the Seller Portal team made some changes based on requests from you. Also, learn more about two upcoming events in October that will give you the opportunity to provide us additional feedback.

Settlement and financial reports include local currency information

New local currency information has been added to the settlement and financial reports. The type of currency is defined in the Payment Currency column (for example, USD) and reflects where the sales occurred. There are new local currency columns for sales, commission, transaction fee, and VAT.

Seller Portal timeout

After you log in to Seller Portal, an inactive session remains open for up to 24 hours. That means you only have to log in to Seller Portal once a day and won’t see the login pop-up notification every 20 minutes. If your session is idle for 24 hours, you are automatically logged out and you will receive a pop-up notification 10 minutes prior to being logged out. For security purposes, remember to log out of Seller Portal when you have completed your tasks.

Requirements for Samsung IAP and Android R

If your app is integrated with Samsung In-App Purchase (IAP) version 6.0 or earlier with target API level 30 (Android R) or higher, an Android policy change requires an update to the manifest file. Without this update, Android R (or higher) users may not be able to make a payment.

To the https://developer.android.com/training/basics/intents/package-visibility manifest file, add the following:

<queries>
   <package android:name="com.sec.android.app.samsungapps" />
</queries>

IAP subscriptions and your customers in India

The Reserve Bank of India issued a regulation that, starting October 1, 2021, customers in India must consent to renew a subscription at the end of a subscription period. Auto-recurring (automatically renewed) subscriptions are no longer allowed.

If you are using Samsung IAP, your subscription customers in India will automatically receive an email notification to renew their subscription. If you are using another payment service provider for your subscription items, you must consult with this payment service provider about the changes you need to make to comply with this regulation.

See this Seller Portal notice and the IAP Subscription Guide for more information.

IAP beta testing

The Samsung In-App Purchase (IAP) team needs your help! If you have published an app or game integrated with Samsung IAP, you may be eligible to participate in an upcoming beta test to review and provide feedback on the following features:

  • Manage item prices and information separately from app information
  • Change the status of each item to active/inactive, when necessary
  • Provide a price template that allows you to manage all items with the same price

Look for an announcement in October with more information, including how you can apply.

      A new Samsung Calendar update introduces several key improvements to the app. It will also allow users to create new events much easier. Samsung’s calendar app has always been useable, but this new update could make it even more useful for Android smartphone users.
      New Samsung Calendar update brings several new features
      The Samsung Calendar update will be available on all supported Samsung devices. Image source: Samsung The newest version of Samsung Calendar will now allow users to create events more easily. The app appears to utilize a system similar to the now-defunct language processing system that Google Calendar used to utilize. The Samsung Calendar update also introduces better invitation management. And you’ll be able to add recommendations quicker, too.
      Version 12.3.05.10000 of the Samsung Calendar app offers all of these improvements. They all tie in easily with the features that already exist in the app, including some you may not be aware of. One big improvement is the option to check group calendar invitations from the calendar management page. This is the page you’d normally check to determine how you view your calendar within the app.
      Changing how the app handles event creation
      Image source: Samsung Of course, the most notable improvement is a change to how this Samsung Calendar update connects a time and location to your event. Previously, the app could determine the time an event should be set based on the title. For example, writing “Lunch at 2” into the event’s title would cause the app to suggest a time of 2 pm for the event.
      The update will also make it simpler to determine your event’s location. Now, if you type “Lunch at 2 at Byron’s Steakhouse”, it will suggest a location with the latest Samsung Calendar update. And, if you don’t want to keep all that information in the event, you can now remove it easily, too. Simply head into the Calendar settings and select “Remove times from event titles” to clean up the event title.
      This is a similar feature that used to be available in Google Calendar. Google removed it back during a calendar redesign in 2018, though. It’s unclear why Google removed the option, but it definitely makes creating events much easier. So it is nice to see it make some kind of return in the latest Samsung Calendar update
      On top of the new update making events easier to create, managing them will be easier, too. And, you’ll be able to add friends and family members to the invitation list more easily.

      Alongside improvements to Bixby, SmartThings, and Samsung Knox, Samsung also announced improvements to Tizen OS for smart TVs. During the ongoing Samsung Developer Conference 2021, the South Korean firm said it wants to consolidate its leadership in the TV segment with more intelligent software and deeper integration with its other services.
      Improved video calling, Samsung Health, and gaming on Tizen-powered smart TVs
      Keeping its ‘Screens Everywhere, Screen For All’ vision in mind, the company is introducing newer experiences to Tizen OS for smart TVs. Samsung has developed a better video calling experience on TVs in partnership with Google via AI-enabled focus and zoom features. Samsung Health can now use a webcam attached to a Tizen-powered smart TV to track user movements and provide real-time feedback during workouts.
      Samsung’s mid-range and high-end smart TVs already have various gaming-related features, including AMD FreeSync Premium, a 120Hz refresh rate, auto low-latency mode, and Game Bar. For an even better gaming experience, the company is bringing automated settings for low latency and HDR10+ calibration.
      Tizen For Business is a new platform for managing interactive digital signage displays
      For businesses, the South Korean firm will soon launch the Tizen For Business platform. It supports interactive e-boards in schools, kiosks at malls, and displays at airports, restaurants, stores, and subways. It will offer easy-to-use display management portals that businesses can use for real-time monitoring and remotely controlling screens. It also allows quickly applying settings to multiple devices with just one touch.
      Tizen is already the world’s biggest smart TV platform, and with the upcoming improvements, it will have more depth in its arsenal to compete with Amazon’s Fire TV, Google’s Android TV, and LG’s webOS platforms.
