Samsung Electronics showcased its 2021 lineup of MICRO LED, Samsung Neo QLED, lifestyle TVs, monitors, and soundbars at its virtual Unbox & Discover event. As people spend more time at home, Samsung’s latest innovations let consumers get the most from their screens—allowing them to work efficiently, communicate effectively, and explore their personal passions.

MICRO LED Comes Home

With superb brightness, deep blacks, and breathtaking image quality, MICRO LED technology offers a groundbreaking viewing experience that lasts. Its inorganic LEDs help prevent burn-in and ensure the screen stays vibrant over its lifetime.

 

In 2018, Samsung introduced MICRO LED in the form of “The Wall”—a configurable system of modules that can reach an astounding 292 inches for an experience like no other. With its inherent flexibility, “The Wall” requires professional installation in the home or office.

 

In 2021, Samsung brings all the power of MICRO LED technology in the form factor of a traditional TV experience. Now, consumers can take home the cinematic experience in a beautiful edge-to-edge screen design, with no need for professional assembly and installation. MICRO LED is available in 110’’ and 99’’ sizes globally beginning at the end of March; an 88’’ size is launching this fall; and a 76’’ is on the future roadmap.

 

MICRO LED can become 4 screens in one. With 4Vue (Quad View), consumers can watch up to four sources of content simultaneously. Keep up with multiple sports at once, or stream a walkthrough while playing a video game. MICRO LED brings true-to-life picture quality at an enormous scale—out of the box.

 

 

Samsung Neo QLED Fits Any Home and Every Passion

As people turn to TVs as an outlet for their passions, Samsung developed Samsung Neo QLED to enhance the viewing experience, no matter what you are watching. The Samsung Neo QLED viewing experience is defined by our Neo Quantum Processor, and new Quantum Mini LEDs. At just 1/40th the size of conventional LEDs, Quantum Mini LEDs allow for ultra-fine light control. With deep blacks, bright lights, and upscaling technology smarter than any Samsung TV has ever offered, Samsung Neo QLED delivers an ultra-realistic picture—whether you are watching a football game, or playing one on your gaming console.

 

Samsung Neo QLED also offers features that level up gaming. Samsung is proud to be the Official TV Partner of Xbox Series X in the United States and Canada. Samsung Health, a comprehensive fitness and mindfulness platform launched in the spring of 2020, met this need. Samsung Health helped us stay fit with partner apps for every style of fitness and health, along with seamless connectivity to mobile devices and wearables.

 

In 2021, Samsung Health adds the benefit of a Smart Trainer. With an optional camera sold separately, the Smart Trainer utilizes AI to analyze your posture and provide real-time feedback to improve your form as you follow instructional videos.

 

In 2021, Samsung Neo QLED’s 8K models (QN800A and QN900A) will be available in 65’’, 75’’, and 85’’ sizes, while the 4K models (QN90A and QN85A) will reflect an even wider selection, starting at 50’’.

 

 

TV Technology That Reflects Your Style Indoors or Outdoors

Consumers today expect experiences tailored to their needs, personal tastes, and style. The Lifestyle TV category offers screens designed for every consumer and every space—in and outside the home.

 

The Frame transforms the TV into a work of art that can be personalized to fit your aesthetic and decor. With new partnerships in the Art Store,1 like NAVA Contemporary and Etsy, The Frame features more original artwork to match individual tastes. It also includes AI-based auto-curation technology that recommends artwork based on your selections. Curate your own personal art collection with a growing library of over 1,400 pieces of art from world-renowned institutions. The Frame also features increased photo storage space from 500 megabytes in 2020 to 6 gigabytes in 2021, so you can store up to 1,200 photos (all) in UHD quality. From beloved classics to stunning photography, the Art Store gives you access to a variety of content to personalize your space.

 

In 2021, there are new ways to customize the Frame itself—from new mounting options like the Slim Fit Wall Mount to five bezel options and more from third party providers. Additionally, we have made the 2021 Frame slimmer than ever: just 24.9 millimeters thick, about the same depth as an actual picture frame. It’s just as appealing off as when it’s on.

 

Samsung is also offering a new way to display the 2021 Frame, with My Shelf, a new accessory releasing globally later this year that lets you create a tailored wall with personal touches to complement your screen and décor. My Shelf can be attached to the 55 inch, 65 inch, and 75 inch Frame sizes, and will be available in four different colors: beige, white, brown, and black.

 

For those who miss the movie theater experience, The Premiere, the industry’s first triple laser projector with 4K resolution, represents the next stage in home cinema—all in a compact package. Traditional beam projectors can be clunky and difficult to set up—and even if they offer a big screen, the resolution is sometimes far below an ordinary TV. The Premiere’s minimalist design, with rounded edges and a fabric finish, fits neatly into any home. To help consumers use the Premiere anywhere in their home, we are going to be offering rollable screens optimized for the Premiere later this year on Samsung.com. Just position the Premiere around 5 inches or further from a monotone wall or ALR screen, and break out the popcorn.

 

In 2020, Samsung took its industry-leading picture performance from inside the home to the yard—just as consumers were looking to get outdoors. With The Terrace, our first outdoor TV, consumers can enjoy the picture quality, audio performance, and smart features they expect from Samsung outside. And they can do so worry-free; The Terrace is weather-resistant, with an IP55 rating to protect against water and dust. It is also simple to install, and easy to connect to cable service and a Wi-Fi network. The Terrace is available in 55”, 65”, and a new 75” Full Sun model2 is coming in time for summer.

 

 

Screens Suited for Every Need – From Productivity to Play

In 2020, the relevance of the monitor at home changed dramatically. For many, this meant additional screens for multiple needs. Suddenly, a screen that was used to shop online or surf social media became critical to daily life, as consumers used it to make the most of work, school, and play.

 

To fulfill this demand, the Smart Monitor is Samsung’s first “do-it-all” monitor—uniting the best of monitor and TV. Smart Monitor is compatible with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Wireless DeX, and Apple AirPlay 2, letting consumers work from anywhere without needing to connect to a PC. With AirPlay 2, customers can stream, control, and share their favorite content directly from their iPhone, iPad, or Mac to their monitor. When you need to relax, you can enjoy your favorite shows by turning on the Smart TV platform and accessing your preferred streaming apps. Smart Monitor helps consumers stay productive when they need to be—and entertained when they need a break.

 

In 2020, the Odyssey G9 gaming monitor generated a lot of buzz—this year, Samsung is leveling up the experience with a Quantum MiniLED display and premium gaming features. The 1000R screen curvature, combined with Quantum MiniLED display technology, gives gamers an experience unlike any other. The new G9 joins Samsung’s full lineup of curved and flat Odyssey gaming monitors.

 

To enable a new way of learning and working while staying safe, we are introducing the Samsung Interactive Display FLIP 75-inch,a digital whiteboard you can write, draw, and edit on. The Flip offers connective features for hybrid working and learning to help consumers succeed—whether in the classroom, the office, or at home. With optimized 4K picture quality and easy-to-read visuals, a team of up to 20 can work simultaneously to sync personal devices for real-time content sharing. The Flip allows users to see a coworker’s or teacher’s presentation as if they were there in person—offering the ability to work together while staying safe. Designed to foster greater collaboration, increase productivity, and enable a seamless exchange of ideas, the 75-inch display joins the 55-inch, 65-inch, and 85-inch display.

 

 

Sound That Matches the Visual

While Samsung TVs offer incredible sound from the tiniest of speakers, nothing rounds out the home theater experience like the addition of a Samsung soundbar. The 2021 Q Series lineup includes exclusive Q-Symphony tech, syncing audio from the Samsung TV to deliver enhanced 3-dimensional sound. The soundbar even measures its environment to project audio precisely where it needs to be.

 

For a full, deep and rich immersive experience, the Q950A boasts the industry’s first 11.1.4 channel sound bringing you right into the center of the action. Its new Bass Boost feature allows users to add “more boom” with a simple click. For those who play music from their mobile devices, Tap Sound makes it as simple as tapping a device to the soundbar. And the Q950A works with multiple voice assistants, including Amazon Alexa and Bixby—making it easy to take full control of the listening experience.

      Samsung Electronics today announced that Samsung TV Plus, its leading free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) service, will live stream the 2024 MAMA AWARDS, one of the world’s premier K-pop events.       Samsung Electronics today announced the installation of its Outdoor LED Signage XHB Series (P8) at the flagship location of Shinsegae Department Store in Seoul, South Korea. Unveiled during the “2024 Lights Up SEOUL, KOREA” event today, the installation is set to establish Myeongdong Square in Seoul as Korea’s new premier landmark, featuring a stunning media lighting display that illuminates the heart of Seoul’s iconic shopping district.
       
      “Our LED displays present unlimited possibilities for places like Myeongdong to bear new elements of cultural significance,” said Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “This installation gives us an opportunity to showcase in the biggest way possible that our outdoor digital displays are built to engage, built to deliver impactful content, and built to last.”
       
      Located within the Myeongdong Special Tourist Zone Area, Shinsegae Department Store is uniquely positioned as a free outdoor advertising zone that enables creative and expansive installations. Samsung’s massive outdoor LED signage featuring an anamorphic 8K display, wraps around the entire outer wall of the building, measuring 71.8 meters in width and 17.9 meters in height — equivalent in size to three basketball courts.
       

       
      Spanning a total area of 1,285 square meters, the display is designed for resilience in harsh weather, featuring an IP66 rating for dust and water resistance, and UL 48 and UL 746C certifications1 for year-round durability. The installation is engineered for high visibility and vibrant color accuracy, with support for HDR10+ technology to deliver sharp contrast and rich visuals. With a max brightness of 8,000 nits,2 the display ensures exceptional clarity even in direct sunlight. Its high refresh rate of 7,680Hz minimizes flicker and the moiré effect,3 ensuring a stable display that remains visually crisp, even through camera lenses.
       
      Samsung’s track record of success with digital signage spans prominent venues worldwide. In South Korea, Samsung provided the country’s largest ever high-definition LED signage to Coex SM Town, while transformative installations at New York’s Citi Field and Houston’s Minute Maid Park set new standards for in-stadium displays. At Citi Field, Samsung installed the largest scoreboard in professional baseball, featuring over 29,800 square feet of LED screens that immerse fans in the action from every angle. Similarly, at Minute Maid Park, Samsung’s high-definition LED technology redefined the fan experience with massive outdoor displays and a dynamic new main scoreboard, all designed to enhance the excitement of the game.

      Samsung Wallet is introducing a new feature called "Generic Card" for partners who cannot use other card types to fulfill their business requirements. This provides flexibility to modify various field labels for the card, according to the partners’ business needs.
      Other cards, such as boarding passes and coupons serve a specific purpose, and their field labels cannot be modified. However, with a generic card, the label can be modified so it can be used for multiple purposes.
      In this article, you learn how to modify a generic card to use it as an insurance card. We will explain the details specification with example of the generic card. At the end of the article a guide will be provided to implement this card for your reference, to help you modify your generic card according to your needs.
      Card setup
      Before you begin creating a new card template, log in to the Samsung Wallet Partner site and create a generic card.
      Log in to the Samsung Wallet Partner site. Go to the Wallet Cards and then Create Wallet Card. For more details about creating a card, check the Manage Wallet Cards documentation. Select Generic Card from the available card templates. Modify the card information. When you have finished editing card information, launch the card to complete card setup. For more information on how to launch the card, see Launch Wallet Cards.
      Template editor
      Use the template editor to modify the card template.

      From the "CardArt" view, you can modify the card color, set a background image or change the logo image properties. From the "Enlarge" view, you can modify the {{text1}} and {{text2}} labels. However, only the label itself can be changed in the Template Editor. To set the label value, you need to update the JSON file. From the "Detail" view, you can modify the "TextGroup" and "AppLink" properties. Modify the text label according to your needs. It is also possible to add new text fields, with a maximum of 12 text fields allowed. After every modification, click Save. Finally, apply all changes by clicking Apply. If you want to preview your changes, just click Preview.
      Add to Samsung Wallet
      Now that the card has been created in the site, it is ready to be distributed to fulfill your business needs.
      Implement the "Add to Samsung Wallet" functionality to the platform where you are planning to distribute the cards. When users click "Add to Samsung Wallet," the card is added to the Wallet application on the user’s Galaxy device. This functionality can be added through the application/mobile web, MMS, or email. Additionally, you can use a QR code on a computer web browser and KIOSK. Samsung provides a Codelab guide for developers so that they can easily understand the implementation.       To complete the "Add to Samsung Wallet" button implementation, you must generate the Card Data token and create a final URL. For more information, see Add to Samsung Wallet. Let’s start by reviewing the generic card specifications to generate the Card Data token. The generic card follows the specifications below. For more information on them, see the Generic Card section.
      Name
      Description
      Title
      The main title of the generic card. In the sample card, the title is "Card Title." In the image below, the title is "Insurance Identification Card."

      Subtitle
      The subtitle of the generic card. In the sample card, it is "Card Subtitle".
      providerName
      Use this field to set the card provider name. For more information, check the Card JSON Example below. However, the provider name depends on your card type and should be modified accordingly.
      eventId
      Enter an ID as an event identifier. In case your card is prepaid, for example a gift card, or if you have vouchers to events, such as concerts, it is possible to define an event ID. For instance: "event-001".
      groupingId
      Enter an identifier to group related cards.
      startDate
      Enter the starting date and the epoch timestamp in milliseconds.
      startDate.relativeNotiTime
      Enter the amount of time within which you want to provide a notification to the user. The notification time is the relative time from the startDate. The value can be up to 2880 milliseconds.
      endDate
      Enter the end date and the epoch timestamp in milliseconds.
      endDate.relativeNotiTime
      Enter the amount of time within which you want to provide a notification to the user. The notification time is the relative time from the endDate. The value can be up to 2880 milliseconds.
      logoImage
      Set the logo image URL. The file size must not exceed 256 KB. Also this image can be set from the Template Editor.

      logoImage.darkUrl
      Set the logo image URL for the dark mode. The file size must not exceed 256 KB.
      logoImage.lightUrl
      Set the logo image URL for the light mode. The file size must not exceed 256 KB.
      bgImage
      Set the background image URL. The file size must not exceed 512 KB.
      text{i}
      Set the label-text value that should be displayed for each field containing the details of your card. The label is defined in the Template Editor, shown in the image below.


      To set the value of the label, update the JSON file.

We have used a Type1 card in the example. So this field in the example JSON has no effect on the card. You can find all three card type sample UIs here.

      locations
      List of locations where the card will be used. This information can be used to provide location-based services. Samsung Wallet can use this information to show maps, names of places, and addresses. For more information on the locations field and JSON format, check References.

      Card JSON example
      In previous sections, you have learned about the card specifications. Next, let’s implement the generic card fields according to your needs. In this section, as the aim is to create an insurance card, you must use the fields accordingly.

      Now, you can test the generic card with the "Add to Wallet" test tool provided by Samsung. Just follow these steps:
      Sign in to the Add to Wallet test tool. For more information, see the Samsung Wallet Test Tool. Enter the private key in the "Enter Partner Private Key" field. In this tool, you find all cards that you have created from the Samsung Wallet Partner site in the "Select Card" section. For more information, see the Samsung Wallet Partner site. Select the generic card that you have just created. Now select JSON from the Data field and modify the existing JSON data fields according to the card specification details. After modifying the JSON data fields, check if the JSON is valid. Finally, if the private key is valid, the "Add to Samsung Wallet" button becomes active at the bottom of the page. Then, just click Add to Samsung Wallet to finish adding the generic card. If you use the provided example JSON and add the card to the wallet, the card looks like the following:

      Server integration
      In this step, server configuration is needed because the generated JWT token expires after 30 seconds. Developers are advised to only generate this token after a user has clicked the "Add to Wallet" button. As you have already performed testing with the "Add to Wallet" test tool, you need to configure your server.

      Samsung Electronics today announced that its proprietary cryptography module, Samsung CryptoCore,1 has earned the prestigious FIPS 140-3 certification2 from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). This certification underscores Samsung’s commitment to providing industry-leading security and data protection for Smart TV users.
       
      “As home entertainment systems become more connected, it becomes critical for technology companies to safeguard the personal data that enables the seamless connectivity enjoyed by so many,” said Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of the R&D Team, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “By integrating the FIPS 140-3-certified CryptoCore into our Smart TVs, Samsung is taking our commitment to secure home entertainment a step further and ensuring that our users can freely experience the value of our products.”
       
      Beginning in 2025, Samsung CryptoCore will be fully integrated into Tizen OS,3 Samsung’s Smart TV operating system, enhancing the security of key products such as TVs, monitors and digital signage. With Samsung CryptoCore embedded in Tizen OS, personal data linked to Samsung accounts will be securely encrypted, SmartThings authentication information will be protected from external hacking threats and content viewed on TVs will benefit from enhanced copyright protection.
       
      Since 2015, Samsung has equipped its Smart TVs with Samsung Knox,4 a security platform that has earned Common Criteria (CC) certification5 for 10 consecutive years. But with its newly acquired FIPS 140-3 certification, Samsung has strengthened its defenses against hacking and data breaches even further, proactively protecting personal information with advanced encryption technology.
       
      Recognized by governments in 10 countries,6 the FIPS 140-3 certification requires comprehensive testing of cryptographic modules to ensure their security, integrity and reliability. For users, this means Samsung Smart TVs offer cutting-edge protection against privacy breaches, allowing them to enjoy their content, connect smart devices and engage with IoT services securely and without concerns.
